  The theme for this year is ‘Living Water.’ As Christians around the world join together in prayer and action to protect our common home.

  There will be events in our archdiocese and in our parishes celebrating the ‘Season of Creation’.  After the heatwaves this summer it is a perfect time for us all to reflect on what we can do!

  Will you join the ‘Creation Walk’ on Saturday 5 September?  Will you be taking part in the ‘Plant and Seed Giveaway’? 

  Is it time to support Charities like Water Aid who bring the gift of sustainable water supplies to remote communities?

CALLING ALL GARDENERS!: 

To mark the Season of Creation in September, there will be a free plant and seed giveaway in both St Mary’s and St John Vianney parishes.

It would be brilliant if you could start collecting seeds (store them in a paper bag in the fridge) or rooting cuttings now, in time for September. Have a think about any indoor or outdoor plants that might need a new home. If you have plants like poppies, foxgloves or marigolds and would like to know how to collect seeds, please speak to Lydia. It might be fun as a project for the school holidays. Thank you!

EVENING PRAYER WITH THE APOSTOLIC NUNCIO:

📍Location: The Metropolitan Cathedral

All are invited to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King on Sunday 13 September at 3pm for the culmination of the Apostolic Nuncio’s visit to the archdiocese. This date coincides with the 175th anniversary of the establishment of the Metropolitan Chapter of Liverpool.

The celebration will take the form of Evening Prayer sung in the Cathedral. A drinks reception will follow in the Cathedral crypt. The Apostolic Nuncio will also celebrate the Solemn Mass at 11am in the Cathedral on that date.

FATHER JOSEPH KENDALL RIP:

It is with profound sadness that we heard of the passing of a beloved priest Fr Joe Kendall who died unexpectedly on Saturday 8 August 2026. Fr Joe was ordained in 2012 and served faithfully as the Vice Rector of the Seminary in Valladolid. Please remember Fr Joe, his family, friends, the Archbishop, his brother Priests, the Formation Community at Valladolid and the whole archdiocesan family in your prayers.

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill is back in the House of Commons and seeks to legalise assisted dying. It will have its Second Reading and vote on Friday, 11 September 2026.

SEASON OF CREATION / ST FRANCIS JUBILEE PILGRIMAGE WALK AND MASS:

📍Meet: St Francis of Assisi Church, Garston

Saturday 5 September, join Archbishop John to celebrate these two special events. The 3.6-mile walk will begin at St Francis of Assisi Church, Garston at 10:00am, take us through Sefton Park and end at St Anthony of Padua Church, Mossley Hill. Mass will be celebrated at 12:30pm followed by packed lunch in the hall.

“LOURDES AT HOME” AFTERNOON:

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to organise the ‘Lourdes at Home’ Mass on Tuesday 28th July which was a truly beautiful and blessed occasion. 📍Location: The Metropolitan Cathedral

All are invited to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King on Sunday 13 September at 3pm for the culmination of the Apostolic Nuncio’s visit to the archdiocese. This date coincides with the 175th anniversary of the establishment of the Metropolitan Chapter of Liverpool.

The celebration will take the form of Evening Prayer sung in the Cathedral. A drinks reception will follow in the Cathedral crypt. The Apostolic Nuncio will also celebrate the Solemn Mass at 11am in the Cathedral on that date.

LITERACY CHARITY SEEKS LOCAL VOLUNTEERS:

Coram Beanstalk is a national literacy charity which has been supporting children to become readers since 1973. We believe every child deserves the joy of reading, and we're here to help them discover it. We need to fill vacancies in settings locally, especially in the L25/Woolton postcode area of Liverpool.

Each volunteer will receive training and will support on average three children for 20-30 minutes, at least once a week.
