ST MARY'S WAR MEMORIAL
The Parish War memorial was erected to the memory of the men of St. Mary's Parish who died in World War 1.

More information on Lieutenant Eugene John Vincent Hemelryk
Lieutenant Eugene John Vincent Hemelryk was the son of Paul Edward Joseph Hemelryk JP and Caroline Bertha Hemelryk of the Priory Gateacre.
Paul E.J. Hemelryk was a prominent Liverpool cotton broker who was decorated with honours from both the Pope (Knight Commander of St. Gregory) for his charitable work and by the Emperor of Japan (for his work as the Japanese consul in Liverpool).
He is also remembered on the War Memorial at Bishop Eton

More information on Lance Corporol Austin Malone
Lance Corporal Austin Malone (commemorated as “Private” on the memorial), served with the 2nd/6th Kings Liverpool Regiment from 1915 -1917 in France and Belgium. He was the only son of Austin and Winifred Malone (and the beloved brother of his five sisters) and lived at 69 Allerton Road, Woolton.
Austin worked as a gardener in the Rose Garden in Woolton Woods. He was an active member of the parish and sang in St Mary’s church choir.
Austin was killed in action on 9 July 1917 and is buried at Cité Bon Jean Military Cemetery in Armentieres.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes:
The Shrine was erected by St. Mary's CYMS to commemorate the centenary of the definition of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1954 The staues being the gift of the parishioners.
In summer 2014. Our beautiful shrine, a haven of peace and prayer in our midst, has been renovated thanks to a generous bequest from Grace Hosker. A bench will soon be in place with an inscription in memory of Grace.
