In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether

Purpose:

Purpose:

We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty. 

We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.

We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.

We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home. 

Aim

We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.  

Patron

Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

KNIGHT OF ST COLUMBA SPONSORED WALK 2022


Congratulations to all the walkers who took part in the Knights of St Columba Sponsored walk and for their generosity in supporting the Asylum Link Merseyside through this action.   Thank you to all the parishioners who sponsored the Knights.

Saturday 1st October, was a gloriously sunny autumn day, and most fitting for the LiveSimply "Care for Creation Walk" between Bishop Eton to St Mary's. 
We started with a short reflection in the Monastery garden at Bishop Eton.  Our patron, Fr Jim Casey, urged us to "listen to the sound of Creation."  

FAIRTRADE 

CAFOD's Living Simply programmes urges us to Live in Solidarity with people in poverty.
Fair trade promotes solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are marginalized by an unjust trade system. Fair trade connects consumers and producers in order to build positive relationships for change. In supporting more fair and equitable trade we are supporting a future of opportunity for the poor. PLANT & SEED SWAP 2022

The Season of creation runs from 1 September through to 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi.  After each Mass on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th Sept we gave away plants and seeds donated by some of the keen gardeners in our parish.   Hopefully the photos below will give you a flavour of the event.

UCM CAFOD talk

Pauline Cook (the CAFOD volunteer from Bishop Eton) gave an interesting talk to the UCM at St Mary's on Wednesday, 14th September sharing the latest CAFOD campaign Fix the Food System.

SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF LIVE SIMPLY IN ST MARY’S

Thank you to all who contributed to the successful launch of our Live Simply Project in St Mary’s this weekend, especially our young readers and our talented gardeners.

Pope Francis said, “All it takes is for one good person to restore hope! (LS71). Well, we have already witnessed many good people coming together to support this launch.

We share some photographs from this weekend and look forward to the re-launch of the Live Simply Award in our sister Parish of Bishop Eton.   (More photos will follow)

A MESSAGE FROM THE ENVIRONMENT BISHOP:

 “It’s time to sprint towards climate action.” A couple of weeks ago we experienced record temperatures of over 40°C, Bishop John Arnold, our Lead Bishop for the Environment, released an urgent message warning us to take action on global warming. He said: “We’ve already been told that some of the damage is irreparable, so we’ve got to think and we’ve got to act.” Thanking parishes and schools for working so hard to promote sustainable living whilst campaigning for environmental justice, Bishop Arnold also urges all of us to take the recent heatwave as real wake-up call and to step up our efforts to take climate action.

SEASON OF CREATION:

The Season of Creation is a global ecumenical celebration of prayer and action to protect our common home, starting each year on the 1st September (World Day of Prayer for Creation) and finishing on the feast of St Francis, 4th October. During this season we are encouraged to pray and engage in community events in order to deepen our relationship with our God, our neighbour and the earth we share, being ever more attentive to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.
