In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether
Purpose:
Purpose:
We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty.
We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.
We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.
We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home.
Aim
We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.
Patron
Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

We care about creation and we care about people living in poverty
This weekend we celebrate World Earth Day 2023.
One of the main focusses this year is the fashion industry or more specifically, our support for ‘fast fashion’ where garments are designed to be worn but quickly discarded. The industry is responsible for 10% of all carbon emissions worldwide, while less than 1% all of garments are ever recycled.
What can we do?
Support the LiveSimply Nearly New Fashion Show at St Mary’s next Saturday 29 April from 2:00pm onwards. Alternatively, why not take a bag of surplus clothes to Nugent, or to another charity shop, this week.

Monday is May Day the celebration of which, with Maypoles and Morris dancing, dates back to our pagan heritage when the day marked the start of a new cycle of growth across the land.
Pope Francis repeatedly reminds us that it is our duty as Catholics to live sustainably with creation. So, if you are venturing out into the garden this week to tackle the ‘new cycle of growth’, why not make a May Day resolution and challenge yourself to try something different this year – buy a packet of seeds, or take cuttings, or create a bug hotel, or start a compost heap, or instal a water butt.

As we celebrate the feast of the Risen Christ perhaps you could spend some time in God’s creation, challenging yourself to get up early and watch the sunrise and to simply pray this prayer as the world starts to wake:
God of life, Creator of the earth and all that it contains, you rested and beheld all that you had made and you saw that it was good. Encourage us to lift our heads from the daily grind and know that we are always in your sight. Empower us to break the chains that bind us in unfulfilling work, and to bring hope to those that toil unseen. Open our eyes to see what is truly important and lead us to seek the real wealth that comes from you, only making itself felt in dignity and justice for all. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

“My God, my God, why have you deserted me?”
Jesus’ cry of abandonment can still be heard in our world today. Our common home, earth, cries out from the harm we have inflicted on it, while the gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow.
Next Saturday, 22 April, is World Earth Day 2023. There are major events happening across the globe based around this year’s theme Invest in our Planet.

SPRING CLEAN: It’s time to Spring Clean!!! Dig out all your un-needed, unused, unloved items. Give them away to those who need them. Let’s fill our local charity shops with simply wonderful things. Shout if you need a hand with transport:

SPRING CREATION WALK: This Saturday 1 April 2023 starting at St Mary’s Parish at 11 o’clock. We will gather in the garden and then walk over to Bishop Eton, where we will then have refreshments in the Fisher- More Hall. This reflective walk will be an excellent preparation for us approaching Holy Week.

SPRING HEALING MASS AND LUNCH IN ST MARY’S
On Saturday, 18th March the Saint Vincent de Paul Society organised transportation to bring together many of our house bound parishioners for this special Mass where they received the sacrament of the sick.
After Mass, the group were invited into the hall for a light soup and sandwiches lunch. The SVP also sent everyone home with an early Easter egg.
