Please click the link to see some photos of the day and a video of the prayers at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, where Fr Peter McGrail led parishioners in prayer joining together in spiritual union with our pilgrims in Lourdes.

FAITH LEADERS INVITE YOU TO THE 2026 SEASON OF CREATION

MAKE THE CATHEDRAL BLOSSOM

As part of the Cathedral Diamond jubille flower festival you can help make our Cathedral bloom for the Flower Festival by making a £30 donation to sponsor an orchid for a pew-end display.

As a thank you for your generosity, you will be invited to write a short personal message, dedication, or remembrance. Your note will be attached to your orchid, creating a meaningful and personal part of the festival display, and best of all you can take it home once the festival is over.

To register your interest, please contact Claire in Cathedral House at

Details of how to make the payment will be sent to you, or you can pop the cash in an envelope with your message enclosed and post to Cathedral House.

PARISHES LIVING OUT THEIR FAITH WITH CAFOD

This summer, many parishes and individuals here in the Archdiocese of Liverpool have responded to CAFOD’s call to highlight unjust national debt by signing their petition.

Many of the world's poorest countries are in a debt crisis, forced to pay ever higher interest rates to wealthy lenders, using money that could otherwise be spent on healthcare, education, and coping with the climate crisis. Often, they’ve paid their original debt several times over but are trapped in a spiral of debt that can't be cleared due to the interest.

Thank you to all who have added your voice to this call for fairness.

ARCHDIOCESAN GOOD NEWS - LOURDES PILGRIMS RETURN HOME

The pilgrims have returned from Lourdes, safe and sound and spiritually refreshed. A big thank you to everyone who took part in the pilgrimage this year, both in Lourdes and at home, and a special congratulations to the Youth Pilgrimage for 50 years of helping sick pilgrims get the most out of their pilgrimage. Look forward to coverage of this year's pilgrimage in September's issue of The Pic!

UPDATE ON THE FUTURE OF HOLY FAMILY CHURCH:

Very many thanks to everybody who took part in the two meetings that Mgr. Philip Inch led. The report of what was said at those meetings was circulated at Mass last Sunday. The next step will be for Mgr. Inch to report on the meetings to the Council of Priests, probably in October, which will then make a recommendation to the Archdiocesan Trustees. The Trustees will make a decision when they meet in the Autumn. I’m afraid that at this stage, I cannot give a more precise timescale. I do understand that this is very painful for many of you - a church is more than a building. It is rich in memories of your loved ones and of special events in your lives. Several of you have raised practical questions, which I shall discuss with the Parish Council next week. I’ll get back to you through the newsletter.

Minutes of the Parish Council are also posted on the St. John Vianney parish website.

People have also suggested that we should explore ways to prayerfully support each other at this time; I am very happy to work with you on this.

I promise to keep you updated on developments.
