In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether
Purpose:
Purpose:
We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty.
We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.
We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.
We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home.
Aim
We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.
Patron
Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

October is Black History Month, a time each year when we are invited to learn more about and celebrate ‘the full complexity of Black heritage’. The resource pack (https://www.blackhistorymonth.org.uk/black-history-month-resource-pack-2024/) highlights the huge achievements of Black Literary Figures, Scientists and Innovators, Activists and Heroes and the important contributions they have made to society. Perhaps we should also use this as an opportunity to learn more about our Catholic Black Heritage. Did you know that all of the following canonised saints, together with hundreds of others, came from Africa and have had a profound effect on the Church?

‘World Food Day’ falls this week on Wednesday. While not forgetting all those suffering starvation and malnutrition in other parts of the world, let us also remember the people who live very close to us and are also struggling to feed their families. Please continue to support the work of food banks when you shop and by bringing items to church. Another easy way to support food banks is online via Bankuet (https://www.bankuet.co.uk/). Your donation goes as far as possible for maximum impact through the power of bulk buying; for every £1 you give; they deliver more than £1 of food! It’s also exactly what the food bank has requested and needs most.
Jesus himself taught us to pray, ‘Give us today our daily bread.’ We are privileged to be able to share what we have been given.

The Season of Creation drew to a close last Friday 4 October, the Feast of St Francis and also, appropriately, Family Fast Day. The theme for this was Harvest, when we give thanks for all the riches of God’s creation which we enjoy while so many people go hungry.
We have another opportunity this week to help feed hungry children by supporting Mary’s Meals.
‘World Porridge Day’ is Thursday 10 October.
Why Porridge Day? Because this is what they serve to starving children.
Why not hold a porridge party during October? Or challenge yourself to eat only porridge for a day?
Alternatively, why not take a packed lunch to work instead of buying. For the price of a £4 supermarket meal deal, Mary’s Meals can provide 40 school meals. Imagine 40 smiling faces! https://www.marysmeals.org.uk/
“Our Father, give us this day our daily bread and forgive us for the times when we take more than our share of the bread that belongs to all. As we come to the close of the ‘Season of Creation’ – let us spend some time united in prayer each day:
We believe that all creatures come forth from the all-powerful hand of the Creator, evolving through time and space, filled with God’s presence and tender love.
May God awaken our praise and thankfulness for every creature and bless us with the grace of feeling profoundly joined to everything that is. Amen.
Through Christ all things were made. Formed in the womb of Mary our Mother, Christ Jesus became part of this Earth, gazing upon this world with human eyes.
May Christ bless us with eyes to see him alive in every creature in his risen glory. Amen.
The Holy Spirit guides this world toward the Creator’s love and accompanies Creation as it groans in travail. May this Holy Spirit dwell in our hearts and inspire us to do what is good, to care wisely and with love for Earth, our Common Home. Amen.
And may our Triune God, wondrous community of infinite love, bless us all with justice, peace, love and beauty, God who is Creator, Word and Holy Spirit now
and forever. Amen.

What do today’s scriptures say to us as we are being urgently called to speak out and work to save Earth as a nurturing home for all?
- Does our faith in God’s presence and faithful protection reflect the faith of the Servant in Isaiah and of Jesus?
- Can we pray in the spirit of the psalm in gratitude for God’s mercy and faithful presence to us in our lives, drawing strength and trust from our experiences?
- Are we conscious of those who have been killed or have suffered great violence for their work responding to the Cry of Earth and the Cry of the Poor?
- Who are these prophets in our region of the planet? How do their courage and witness affect us?
- How can it inspire and encourage us to express our faith in God’s mission to us to heal Earth in urgent action?

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with others.
To celebrate the ‘Season of Creation’ in our community, the LiveSimply Team from St Mary’s together with the Salvation Army’s Fresh Expressions Team from Strawberry Field, invite you to join us for a Creation Walk in Strawberry Field on Monday 23 September at 2:00pm. We will gather in the Prayer Space for a short reflection on the themes of this year’s Season of Creation. After this, there will be time to explore the wonderful prayer Labyrinth in the grounds of Strawberry Field.
