In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether
Purpose:
Purpose:
We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty.
We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.
We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.
We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home.
Aim
We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.
Patron
Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with others.
We challenge every parishioner to set at least one ‘LiveSimply New Year’s Resolution’, either to live simply or sustainably with Creation or in solidarity with those living in poverty. Even if it’s an easy one…
Perhaps you could resolve to …take time to appreciate our local green space, or make one less car journey a week, or eliminate all single use plastic bottles, or follow CAFOD or Water Aid or Mary’s Meals on Social Media, or actively support our Local Foodbank, or regularly buy one Fairtrade product.

As we begin the Jubilee Year as Pilgrims of Hope, we are called to universal fraternity, refusing to turn a blind eye to the rampant poverty that prevents millions of people from living in a manner worthy of our human dignity. May we be voices for the poor, restoring access to the fruits of our Common Home for all; as Pilgrims finding ways of living a simpler life.

We await the birth of our Saviour, born in a stable, as the child of refugees driven from their own country. Let our preparations and celebrations of this miraculous event be simple, prayerful and understanding of those in need.

This week we pray for our brothers and sister throughout the world, forced to leave their homes and travel to a new country, in the hope of a life where they and their children will be safe. The United Nations urges our support in celebration and prayer on International Migrants Day on Wednesday, 18 December.

As we travel through Advent, we continue to remember those in need at this cold but festive time. Our parishes continue to support those in food poverty, through the South Liverpool Foodbank and the Sisters of Charity, Seel Street. What can you do to help?

MOTHER TERESA FOOD COLLECTION
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with others.
As we begin Advent, in our preparation for Christmas, let us not forget those in need. Our collection of non-perishable food to support the work of the Missionaries of Charity at Seel St, feeding the homeless of our city will take place next weekend. Please help those in need by putting items in the boxes at the back of church after the Masses next weekend the 7 & 8 December. Thank you!

As COP29 comes to a close, we pray that world leaders have listened to those most affected by climate change and will act urgently and wisely
At home we can continue to share our ideas for a sustainable Christmas. With school Christmas fayres coming up it is a good time to donate pre-loved toys and to pick up nearly new uniform and gifts made locally.

Do we still buy a ‘little something’ for our wider family? Could we buy one Secret Santa present instead?
Can we choose online options that include charity donations without any extra cost?

As we start our preparations for Christmas can we challenge ourselves this year to look for sustainable presents?
It’s so easy to get carried away bringing more colourful plastic into our homes. Our nearly new fashion show this weekend could be a perfect opportunity to pick up a recycled gift.

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with others.
Here in Liverpool, we are very lucky to have a number of free, nationally important museums and art galleries, including The World Museum, The International Slavery Museum and The Walker Art Gallery. As we continue Black History Month why not have a fun day out, maybe with a group of family or friends, visiting one or more of the museums to learn about Black history and culture? It could be an ideal half term activity.
Alternatively, why not find something relevant to read, watch, listen to or explore online e.g. https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/collections/sankofa/culture
Perhaps through this we can also recognise some of our own, possibly previously unacknowledged, prejudices.
