ST MARY’S PARISH - WOOLTON
Still Striving to Become a Dementia Friendly Parish
Early in the Covid-19 lockdown around April this year, members of the Pastoral Team became acutely aware of the challenges being faced by all our vulnerable parishioners, not least those living with dementia and their carers.
Have a Cup of Tea on Us…
With this in mind, the Pastoral Team explored safe ways of keeping in touch and it was decided that every individual guest would be written to with warm messages letting them know they were missed and how much we were looking forward to a time when we could safely come back together again.
Enclosed in the envelopes were posters and photos of previous Afternoon Tea and Singalong sessions, together with individually wrapped tea bags saying, ‘Have a cup of tea on us!’ The feedback was wonderful and very heart-warming. Many parishioners wrote notes of thanks saying they were so delighted they had not been forgotten.
Little did we realise in April, that some six months later we would still be living with lockdown rules and COVID-19 restrictions. But once again, the Pastoral Team, still eager to keep in touch with our vulnerable and socially isolated parishioners, got their thinking caps on and decided to link their next mail-out to The Season of Creation. Sowing Seeds of Hope…
Taking an idea from the Season of Creation: Sowing Seeds of Hope, the Pastoral Team set about designing post cards and sent them out with small packets of sunflower seeds inviting parishioners to plant them in their own homes/gardens.

Some one hundred envelopes were posted (many by hand) and we all live in hope and prayer that as those seeds grow, so too will our faith and love for one another as we become the Church God wants us to be.
