FROM FR TIM

synod 2020 logoTHE SYNOD:

We are now encouraged to be considering the second focus that emerged from the consultation, namely “Sharing the mission of Jesus”. Once again we invite all who have something to contribute to place their thoughts and ideas in the Synod Box near the entrance to the Lady Chapel and our reps will process these.
The following video has some reflections on the theme of Sharing the Mission of Jesus
The questions we are asked to reflect on are
      • How do we more effectively evangelise and lead people to a deeper relationship with Jesus?
      • How do we show the compassionate love of Jesus in our work for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation, in our acts of charity and our works of mercy?
      • How can the parish rise to the challenge of sharing the mission of Jesus?
      • How can we equip people to be the presence of Jesus at work, at home, and in the street?

A NEW INITIATIVE:

However, we are also suggesting that our two parishes make a unique contribution to the work of the SYNOD.

It is not clear that we have yet reached out successfully to those who do not come to church, and yet if the SYNOD is to be properly informed we must hear what they have to say.

Accordingly, Fr Michael Henesy has prepared a simple questionnaire, which is available at the back of the church this weekend. If you have members of your family or friends who might be willing to complete this, please take these forms and invite them to consider responding.

Please make sure they realise that this is entirely a non- judgemental exercise and to be done anonymously.

If you would like to download an electronic copy click here

We suggest they place the completed forms in a marked envelope and either return through you or directly to the presbytery. THANK YOU.

DEACONS PREACHING:

Deacon John Keeley is preaching at all the Masses this weekend as part of the deacon swap programme.
Also for the first time Deacon Gergely Juhasz will give the homily at all the Masses in Bishop Eton.
At the same time Fr Andrew and I will be covering the Foreign Mission Appeal for Zimbabwe in Our Lady and St Gregory, Lydiate, this weekend. Just a further reminder of the ever increasing commitments we have at the moment.

THE FUNERAL OF GERRY MCBRIDE:

Will take place this Friday at noon. Gerry was a highly respected Head Teacher of our Primary School and a faithful member of our parish community. May he rest in peace.

PROFESSIONAL HELP REQUIRED:

We are looking for some more help, especially over the weekends, to support the elderly confrères, whose disabilities are becoming more pronounced. Ideally we are looking for people with a nursing background.

Anyone interested, please contact Fr Tim or Fr Andrew and we can discuss the matter, including the requisite recompense.
