A NEW YEAR GREETING FROM FR TIM:
This is the weekend which provides me with the opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you. The Feast of Christmas inspires us to reach out and realise what might just be possible when we seek to live out the message of “Peace on earth”. Your generosity this year seemed to me to break all previous bounds; so, thank you for all the good wishes and expressions of gratitude to our Redemptorist family and for another remarkable Christmas collection. As a child, I always faithfully wrote all my ‘thank you’ letters after Christmas. I hope this will suffice for you; otherwise I will be burning the midnight oil for a few days! Please remember that we invite all of you who are involved in any way in keeping the show on the road to a Parish Reception on Friday 25 January 2019 between 7:00pm and 10:00pm. Please do come: it is always a relaxed and happy occasion. I anticipate that the coming year will be quite momentous. Building on all that has taken place this year I hope that we will continue to seize the opportunities that the Lord presents us to grow together and thereby fulfil our vocation as ministers of his love and compassion.
FR ANDREW (OUR RECTOR) AND
ALL THE REDEMPTORIST COMMUNITY
JOIN ME IN WISHING YOU ALL
A VERY HAPPY AND BLESSED NEW YEAR
CHRISTMAS DINNER AT ST MARY’S:
We owe Anita Carson an enormous debt of gratitude for her initiative in planning and organising the wonderful occasion in our parish hall on Christmas Day. With Natasha Pritchard and a huge team of volunteers well over thirty people, who otherwise might have been alone or unable to celebrate, were able to enjoy the most wonderful Christmas meal and above all the fellowship of one another’s company. Thank you to all the volunteers who made the dream come true.
TIMETABLES FOR THE COMING WEEKS:
During the coming week we will stay with our holiday timetable and there will be a 10:00am Mass each day except when there is a funeral. The following week is providing us with a challenge. Four of us will be away from the community for the Redemptorist Provincial Chapter in Perth and Fr Pat would only be available on one day, so I think we will have to settle for Liturgies of the Word. I will discuss with Deacon Bernard and our other ministers how best to arrange the week from Monday 7 to Friday 11 January.
NEW ARCHDIOCESAN CONFIRMATION PROGRAMME:
In 2020 a new programme will be provided for those at secondary school who will be coming of age for the Sacrament of Confirmation. There is a meeting for adults interested in helping with the catechesis on 9 January at 7:00pm in the Chaplaincy at Hope University.
DEMENTIA FRIENDLY AFTERNOON TEA AND SINGALONG:
As the year draws to a close, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all our sponsors who have so generously supported the monthly Dementia Friendly Afternoon Tea and Singalong. Including: B&B Hygiene Ltd, Catherine Higgins Law, Woodlands Rest Home and our local Sainsbury’s and Tesco stores. We would also like to thank Andy Weir and the Good Turn Society (Happiness Fund) for funding January and February 2019 sessions. We have commitments from Santander Bank and Rockbourne Day Nursery to support subsequent months, for which we are enormously grateful. Thank you also to the staff at Much Woolton school who a arranged for the children to sing Carols at the Christmas Special Afternoon Tea on 30 November. The next session will be on Friday 25 January 2:00pm-4:00pm in the parish hall. Everyone is welcome and especially those people living with dementia and their carers.
FROM THE INTERIM PARISH PASTORAL TEAM:
Over the last few weeks a small group of parishioners have been talking about how we can move forward especially after our Listening Project, Adoremus and now the Synod. We are establishing a Parish Pastoral Team to unite all the different programmes and organisations to further develop our parish community. Many people interviewed in the Listening Project commented on how friendly the parish was but also realised the need for the laity to take on further responsibilities given the dwindling number of priests. At the recent parish meeting, Fr Tim provided an opportunity for the proposed Parish Pastoral Team to talk about how they came in to being and the steps leading to the Synod and beyond. The team are excited about the opportunities to work with the whole parish community to engage and develop our spiritual and social life as well as providing the much-needed support for Fr Tim and the Redemptorist community who serve our parish. Findings of the Listening Project can be found on the parish website and copies are available at the back of church.

Will be holding a ‘Table Sale’ in January to raise funds for ‘Project Zimbabwe’ as the Redemptorist ‘Mavambo Trust’ is struggling to survive in the present economic climate. So please donate any unwanted Christmas gifts in the New Year to fund this worthy cause. Thank you!
MUCH WOOLTON SCHOOL ADMISSIONS:
The Archdiocese is currently consulting on proposed changes to Admissions Policies from Autumn 2020. For our school this will affect children who wish to start at Much Woolton Catholic Primary School from September 2020. A copy of all attached documentation to this page is available on request from the school office. Any comments on these proposals should be made in writing to our Co-Chairs of Governors, Miss C. Chapman and Mrs E. Skyner Andrews via our school office as well as to the Archdiocese of Liverpool whose contact details can be found on the proposal documentation.
