FROM FR TIM:

ADVENT:

I pray that we may all have a blessed experience of this holy season and prepare well for Christmas. Once again it is short with only three weeks to fit everything in, but at least this year the Fourth Sunday does not coincide with Christmas Eve.

I look forward to attending as many of the special events as possible.

I remind you that we will have our usual Reconciliation Services and they will be at the beginning of next week: Monday, 10 December, at St Mary’s and Tuesday, 11 December, at Bishop Eton, both at 7:30 pm.

THE DIOCESAN SYNOD:

Firstly, I wish to thank all of you who took the trouble to come to the parish meeting last Monday. For the most part, people left the event, speaking of how encouraged and hopeful they felt. Pauline Volk was unanimously selected to be our parish representative at the Synod. Pauline has also decided to enrol for the Diocesan three-year Pastoral Ministry Course. This will provide us with a wonderful resource and it was agreed that the parish should sponsor the venture. I am also grateful to those who have indicated that they are willing to be considered for the other eight Pastoral Area representatives at the Synod. We will be in touch with you as soon as we have determined how we are to proceed on that front. Thank you all for your support of the Synod process.

BE ALIVE:

I have written an article in this month’s BE ALIVE, trying to piece together all the encouraging developments in both parishes in recent times. Copies of this article are available this weekend.

PARISH VOLUNTEERS PLEASE NOTE:

During a recent parish Health and Safety Audit, Kevin Harvey (Archdiocesan H&S Officer) flagged up an issue that has arisen in some parishes around the archdiocese. There have been instances of parishioners who have had traffic incidents travelling to and from church and their insurers have not settled the claim due to being unaware of the drivers’ voluntary duties. If you do any regular jobs at, or on behalf of the church (e.g. cleaning, counting money, Eucharistic Ministers visiting the sick and housebound etc.) and you use your car, please inform your motor insurers that you do voluntary work at the church. There should be no increase in your premium, but it is still advisable to inform them. Thank you.

MOTHER TERESA FOOD COLLECTION:

For the Missionaries of Charity in Seel Street. There is a box in the porch this weekend for the donation of non-perishable food, hats, scarves, gloves and socks. Thank you!

LAUNCH OF ST MARY’S COMMUNITY THEATRE

This Monday 3 December from 6:00pm-7:30pm in the parish hall. The event will take place on the first Monday of each month and is open to pupils in Years 6-10, though older and younger children will be made welcome. For more details contact Jen Monkhouse on: 07800572434.
