FROM FR TIM:

WEEKEND MASS - SUMMER TIMETABLE:  As in previous years, the 9:00 am and 11: 00 am Sunday Masses will be replaced with a 10:00 am Mass. The 5:30 pm Mass on Saturday evening remains unchanged.

UPDATE: We had an enjoyable celebration on the Feast of St Alphonsus and it was good that Fr Barrie O’Toole was able to join the community for the day. Once again my thanks to Fr Pat O’Brien for celebrating the Mass in St Mary’s and making it possible for the whole community to be together at Bishop Eton. All the recent funerals have been celebrated with great dignity and I remain immensely grateful to Deacon Bernard Rigby and Bernard Kean for all the hard work they put into supporting our families as they prepare the ceremonies.

COMINGS AND GOINGS: Fr Charles has returned from Granada and reports that the international meeting was a huge success. It was good that Patrick McKean from Bishop Eton and Jen Monkhouse from St Mary’s were able to represent our respective parishes. Charles leaves for some holiday next Friday and will return on August 26. I plan to get away this Tuesday and will return before Fr Andrew leaves for Ireland in time to join Marriage Encounter for the papal visit.

Since Hayley Metcalfe (Bishop Eton) and Ann O’Neill (St Mary’s) are also on leave at present, it will be good if you can leave anything which does not require immediate attention until we are all back later in the month. Kris Reeds and Gill Bickerstaff will keep things ticking over in the offices.

ADOREMUS: The week the schools reassemble is the week leading up to the Eucharistic Congress and we have two special fringe events at Bishop Eton. A Holy Hour with children and families on Friday 7 September at 6 pm and a lunchtime event following the noon Mass on Saturday 8 September. There are leaflets with details of all the events across the city at the back of the church this weekend. Our Junior Justice and Peace Group are already gearing up for the family event. I am hoping that all our altar servers will take part and help with a procession through the grounds (weather permitting).

EXPOSITION AND BENEDICTION: In August the Sunday Gospels are taken from St John and form a timely reminder that Christ is the living bread which nourishes us with his Word and Body.  It is a perfect time to prepare for the Eucharistic Congress (7-9 September). Each Friday Evening in July and August (6: 30-7: 30 pm) we continue Eucharistic Adoration at St Mary’s. Do Join Us! N.B There is no Exposition here on Friday 7 September

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS TRAINING: Saturday 6 October 2018. The training day takes place at Irenaeus, 32 Great Georges Road, Waterloo, L22 1RD. If you are interested, please contact the parish office.

BEREAVEMENT CARE TEAMS: Would you like to be a part of the parish Bereavement Care Team? Training will be provided on 17 & 18 October 2018 at LACE 1:30pm-4:30pm. Once again, please register your interest with Fr Tim through the parish office.

LAY FUNERAL MINISTER COURSE: Do you feel called to be a Lay Funeral Minister? If so, please register your interest with Fr Tim through the parish office. A training course will be at LACE on 21 & 22 November 2018.

ST MARY’S PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO ROME AND ASSISI 28 OCTOBER 2019 - 2 NOVEMBER 2019: We still have a few places available, so, if you would like to join us on this wonderful pilgrimage please contact the parish office for more information and pick up a booking form.  Price depends on the number of people travelling and includes return flights from Manchester to Rome, internal transfers, breakfast and evening meal at both locations and a great itinerary!

TEA, COFFEE AND BISCUITS:  served every Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass in the parish hall. A warm welcome awaits you and it’s a great opportunity to meet other parishioners. Please do come and join us.
