FIRST COMMUNIONS: So far so good: having small groups of children and their families at the weekend Masses seems to be working well. It makes the occasion more intimate and personal for the children and hopefully is a reminder to all of us of how privileged we are to be part of this community of faith, united by the gift of the Eucharist.

EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS: Preparations are in full swing and once again I remind you that Redemptorist Publications have produced a magnificently illustrated booklet, Adoremus Extra. They are available at the back of the church. It seems to me something of a bargain at £4.75, containing a wealth of material from some celebrated authors! It would be wonderful if every family had a copy so that we can all deepen our understanding of and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Adoremus Extra will also provide us with a wonderful souvenir of the event. We will order more copies if the first batch sells well.

There will soon be a display in the porch, identifying our parish representatives, who will attend the Congress and form the pastoral area reps for the Synod 2020.

PENTECOST: Next Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost and brings to an end the season of Easter. The nine days from the Ascension to Pentecost provide us with the tradition of the Novena (the nine days the apostles and Mary spent in prayer awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit). This year we will pray the special Adoremus Prayer during this time.

If you haven't managed to get hold of a prayer card - the prayer is below

Come Holy Spirit,
Fill our hearts with wisdom,
Love and courage.
Make us more like Christ
in our words and actions.
Bless the work of your Church.
Renew us all in the desire
to make Christ
known and loved
in the world today.
Bless the work of our parish.
Guide all that we do
so that our church is a place
of mercy and service
for all who are seeking you.
Deepen our love
for the Presence of Christ in the Eucharist
and guide us in prayer and action
as we journey towards Synod 2020
to become the Church
you are calling us to be.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

NOVENA (OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL SUCCOUR): On the subject of Novenas, may I highlight the fact that this June we are doing an exchange with Clapham. I have been asked to preach the Novena in my hometown and Fr Charles Corrigan and the students will be coming to Bishop Eton to prepare for the feast on June 27. The Novena will begin on the June 19 and will be at Bishop Eton.

ARCHBISHOP MALCOLM: Archbishop Malcolm was immensely grateful for his welcome in both our parishes and schools. He wrote and asked me to thank “all involved in the various facets of parish life” and his best wishes “to the staff and all involved in the running of the schools.”

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Mr Richard Nunes (the father of Matthew, the parish priest in Halewood) who died last Monday.

EXPOSITION: Exposition will be from 6:30pm-7:30pm EVERY Friday and continue at this time during the months of April and May. All welcome!

PARISH LISTENERS:  The interviews will continue up until Pentecost and we are delighted that so many people are willing to offer their views to the Listening Team. However, we still need to connect with a wider section of our parish community to achieve a full representation of views.  The interviews are very informal and will only take about fifteen minutes of your time.

The questions are very simple, for example:

  • What is your overall impression of the parish?
  • What strengths and weaknesses do you see now in the parish?
  • What would you like to see grow and develop over the next year?
  • What priorities do you think we should be working towards?

This is a great opportunity to have your say and shape the future of your parish. If you would like to have chat with one the Listening Team, please contact the parish office and we will link you up with a Listener.  Your views really do count! Thank you.
