FROM FR TIM:
THE BEST MADE PLANS! I have returned from Perth at peace after a good meeting, brilliantly facilitated by one of our North American confrères. But life is never that simple. As I try to prepare the bulletin notes and prepare myself for a funeral at midday, I am faced with the breakdown of the boiler in the Fisher More Hall at Bishop Eton and no possibility of a repair in time for this evening’s Parish Social! We have decided to go ahead and hope everyone turns up prepared for an outward bound course! Don’t forget St Mary’s Social will be in two weeks’ time on the 26 January!
THE FUTURE: Alongside the Redemptorists reflecting during the past week, we have the continuing discussions in our pastoral area and in the archdiocese. At parish level, a small group is looking at the potential for growth and development and in the coming weeks we want to broaden the discussion to include everyone. There will be an Open Meeting on Monday evening, 5 February (6:30pm for 7:00pm), at which Veronica Murphy (Pastoral Formation Co-ordinator) will share with us her experience of good practice in other parishes in the diocese.
POSSIBLE NEW WEEKDAY TIMETABLE: Agreement when it comes to particular matters is never easy. The suggestion that we consider a regular 10:00am Mass, while meeting with wide approval, has also evoked some counter opinions. Until we can agree on what is best, we will revert to the established times of 9:00am on some days and 12 noon on others.
OCTAVE OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY: In spite of the fact that this year there will be no special Unity Service in our area, I think it is important that we continue to pray fervently for Christian unity. We will offer a special bidding prayer during the Octave leading up to the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul on the 25 January.
ZIMBABWE: Bro Benjamin, whose project you have so generously supported, has written a warm letter of gratitude, which is available at the back of the church this weekend.
NEW BULLETINS: With the increasing amount of material for the bulletins, we have decided to try this larger format and hope it meets with your approval.
REDEMPTORIST ASSOCIATES: Fr Maurice O’Mahony C.Ss.R will say a word at the end of all Mases weekend of 27/28 January. Anyone who is interested can meet with Fr Maurice and some of the other lay associates at the Fisher-More Hall on the Sunday afternoon. Time to be confirmed.
PARISH SOCIAL: You are all invited to the Parish Social on Friday 26 January from 7:00pm- 10:00pm in the parish hall and particularly to those of you who work so hard in ensuring the parish runs smoothly throughout the year. It is a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together as a parish community and enjoy each other’s company.
PARISH LUNCHEON: Wednesday 17 January at 12.30pm in the parish hall. Please sign the list in the porch if you would like to come. All welcome!
